  Friday November 25th 1780 O[f] f Tangier Island

  On Board the Brigg Cato at a Board of enquiry held this Day between the Officers of said Brigg and the Schooner Nautuless whether it should be thought proper, after recieving Inteligence from on Board a Brigg Commanded by one Capt. Keel that he had been chased as high as the lower Tangiers last night by a Ship, 3 Briggs & Two Schooners and at the time of the Assignment of this, a Vessell that seems to be dodgen us, which the said Capt. knows as he says,to be one of the same fleet, & the weather appearing at this present,very unsetled & likely for blowing, and the Cato in a Very indifferent State with respect to Seamen. Whether it be thought most Prudent to proceed upwards or to resque the chance of the Bay, not having more than three Days meat on Board, the opinion of the Court stands thus.
