The schooner Eagle, Captain Leaycraft, bound from Newbern. North Carolina, with a cargo of pork, etc., was chased ashore on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, by a privateer on April 4, 1783. Her cargo was taken out and it was thought that she would be saved.
