On the evening of February 11th Major General Alexander Leslie landed unopposed on Simmons Island with the Light Infantry and the Grenadiers.[i] Throughout the night the weather did not cooperate and it rained heavily. General Clinton came ashore with the first wave and spent the night under a tree in the rain.
[i] Simmons Island is the present day Seabrook Island. The main landing took place on Wadmalaw Island near present day Rockville, about 20 miles south of Charlestown at that time.
