Mr. Dunlap, owning property immediately across the Bush River has found Hammond land grants on the back side of his property on the Bush River. 34.431,-81.87153. This information provided by Lt.Col. Joel Rexford, USA(Ret.). GPS mark made by JR.
An old road bed is visible on the property leading down to the Bush River.
The owner of the property (Mr. Payne) said that for many years there had been a sign on the property, placed by a local historical society, that identified this site as that for the "Battle at Hammond's Store". He had removed the sign when he built his home there.
Since the battle was a dragoon raid and a surprise attack, the area of the skirmish likely spread quickly in several directions.
