The "Gazette of the State of South Carolina" of December 23, 1778, reported that a schooner with "indigo and rice," belonging to the estate of George Austin and "lately taken out of Edisto Inlet" by a privateer from St. Augustine, was cast away, and lost on Edisto Inlet Bar, South Carolina. (Note: George Austin was the father in law of Governor Moultrie of South Carolina.)
