The armed ship Jesu, Maria and Joseph, commanded by Don Maquel Lorenzo Ysaardi, bound from Havana for Charleston, South Carolina, with a cargo of rum, was reported ashore on Caper's Island, South Carolina, in the "South Carolina and American General Gazette" of January 19, 1780. Part of her cargo was saved under the protection of the Continental frigate Ranger. The ship had fought first a brig, then a sloop, and then a cutter, on her voyage prior to running ashore. In the fighting she had three men killed and nine wounded.
