  Beech Island, Savannah River, South Carolina
  1 May 1781

  After Moses Shelby and Carr attacked Major Dill at New Bridge they returned to Elijah Clarke’s militia at Beech Island. Thomas Brown found out that the partisans were on the island and sent a force out to silence them. A force of Loyalists and Indians rowed across to the island in canoes. Clark received word that they were coming and was able to escape, but not before Brown’s men killed the pickets on the island.
